Since a couple of days (I guess since 15th of october 2010) the above error message is suddenly presenting itself with all our clients who run IE6(I know!) and IE7.
My best guess is that Google changed something in calling the API.
WORKARROUND:
add /?q= to the url, so :
http://maps.google.be/?q=
