While trying to make a backup of a VM, you get the following error message in vCenter:
The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 5 The error message was: 'VssSyncStart' operation failed: IDispatch error #8460 (0x8004230c)
SOLUTION
I de-installed VMWare Tools and on the VM and after that the backup was immediately successful.
